Ameerah - a name that breathes royalty. The Arabic word for "princess" perfectly reflects pop singer Ameerah's Tunisian, Algerian and Belgian roots. Her new single The Sound Of Missing You is a catchy, melodic dance track with influences of urban and pop. It's one of those songs you won't be able to get out of your head for a long time. The Sound Of Missing You is the result of a collaboration of Ameerah with the renowned Swedish production team Airborn, a.k.a. Didrik and Sebastian Thott; the same team that is responsible for numerous hits for Celine Dion, Westlife and Lindsay Lohan, to name a few. It's a song about the end of a relationship. Ameerah: “It's about missing somebody so much that you can't shake off the feeling. It's like sound: it's always there.” For the last two years, Ameerah has travelled the world to work with the crème de la crème of international producers, such as Red One (Akon, Lady Gaga), Jorgen Elofsson (Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson), Airborn and Souldiggaz (Beyoncé, Missy Elliott). She divided her time between her home in Belgium, Sweden (the Mecca of pop music) and the U.S.A. (the 1 country of urban music) in order to develop her talent and skills. “When I started co-writing with other people, I didn't know who I was musically. It took a while to discover my own sound. Writing with internationally acclaimed producers has helped me find my strengths and musical preferences. These people believe in my talent and they have given me plenty of room to grow.” Having spent numerous hours in music studios all over the world, Ameerah has become a well-respected songwriter herself, who is often invited to co-write with other artists and producers. Music has always been the focus of Ameerah's life. Her musical skills emerged at a very young age. As a three-year-old, she started to sing along to Walt Disney songs, did her first big performance at the age of six and has never stopped since. She went to music school and took acting classes and dance lessons. At the age of fourteen, she won a free-stage competition. She went on to become one of the most popular participants of the Belgian version of Idols 2003, got signed to a Belgian record label at twenty and released two successful singles. After that collaboration ended because of musical differences, Ameerah signed a deal with Highclazz Records. Ameerah has always been an ambitious girl and it's starting to pay off. “People said I was a fool when I decided to go to the US and Sweden to establish my career. But I just felt I should give it a try and went for it.” With so many fruitful songwriting sessions on her name, a great new single and her everlasting determination to succeed, it is only a matter of time before Ameerah will become a true internationally successful pop princess. --------------------------------------- Ameerah a.k.a. Astrid Roelants werd geboren op 18 april 1983. Ze studeerde audiovisuele kunsten aan het Rits te Brussel. Op haar veertiende verandert het leven van de kleine Astrid. Ze geeft haar eerste optreden op een free podium op de Oude Markt van Leuven. Astrid wint de wedstrijd en ontdekt dat muziek een grotere plaats in haar leven inneemt dan ze ooit had gedacht. Ze krijgt onmiddellijk een grote liefde voor muziek, zang en entertainment. Daarna besluit Astrid deel te nemen aan verschillende zangwedstrijden, zoals “De Gouden Stem” en “De Soundmixshow”. Via haar hostessenwerk bij VTM hoort ze in 2003 al gauw dat er een nieuwe talentenshow zit aan te komen. Astrid is er als de kippen bij om zich in te schrijven. Bij “Idool 2003”, de naam van de nieuwe talentenshow, haalt ze uiteindelijk de top 50! Ze valt enorm op met haar vertolking van “Black Velvet” van Alannah Myles. Deze act wordt door de jury omschreven als “sexy en uitdagend voor mannen, gevaarlijk voor vrouwen”. Doch Astrid haalt de top 10 nét niet. Dit houdt Astrid niet tegen! De top 50 halen betekent talent hebben, en dat talent moet Astrid zeker benutten! Ze heeft niet enkel zangtalent, maar ook het talent om de juiste mensen te vinden die haar carrière in de goede richting kunnen sturen. Zo kwam ze bij de gebroeders Paelinck terecht. Deze schreven voor haar het liedje “Don’t You Stop The Music”. Met deze song schreef Astrid zich in voor de preselecties van Eurosong 2004. Astrid beschouwde deze deelname als de springplank voor haar verdere muzikale carrière. Ze behaalde een plaats in de finale en werd door Radio 2 in de bloemetjes gezet. Ze ontving de Radio 2-prijs voor de revelatie, waardoor ze een hele zomer lang mee op toer mocht met de Radio 2-band, wat haar enige naambekendheid verwierf. In 2004 bracht Astrid de single “However” uit. De single kreeg heel wat airplay op de Vlaamse radiozenders. Maar daarna hoorden we een tijdje niks meer van haar… Maar Astrid zat zeker niet stil! Ze maakte haar studies af en trok naar het buitenland. De voorbije jaren reisde ze de hele wereld rond, van New York naar Stockholm in Zweden en van Amsterdam weer naar Los Angeles. Ze doopte zichzelf om tot Ameerah, Arabisch voor prinses, en muzikaal ruilde ze de pure pop voor een mengeling van dance, pop en R&B. Ze ontmoette in het buitenland heel wat bekende sterren en stond zo op party's met Beyoncé, Mariah Carey en John Legend. Internationele deuren gingen open en ze trok de studio in met bekende producers. In juli 2006 kregen we al een voorproefje. Ameerah gaf een showcase in De Carré te Willebroek, maar ondertussen timmert ze volop aan de weg naar de top, vooral als songleverancier. Haar songs vallen in de smaak bij grote namen uit de muziekwereld. Beyoncé en Jennifer Lopez hadden duidelijke interesse voor haar nummers. Ook de Japanse hitsensatie Tata Young heeft al een nummer van Ameerah gekozen voor haar nieuwe Engelstalige album dat in de zomer van 2009 verschijnt. Ameerah heeft recent met verschillende top producers en songwriters uit het buitenland samengewerkt zoals RedOne (Shakira & Wyclef, Gia Farrell, Christina Milian en Kat de Luna), Souldiggaz (Beyonce, Missy Elliott en Madonna) en de artiest Ne-Yo (Let me love you – Mario, Irreplacable _ Beyonce, Unfaithful – Rihanna). Ameerah werkt nu reeds lang aan haar eigen album, maar dit krijgt steeds meer en meer vorm. Zo is er haar debuutsingle "The Sound Of Missing You", dat sinds 9 juni 2009 te koop is via iTunes en op 16 juni 2009 zal verschijnen in de Amerikaanse platenzaken. De Amerikaanse platenfirma Robbins Entertainment brengt de dance-versie van de single op de markt. Na de release in Amerika zal de single ook verschijnen in Engeland, later in de rest van Europa. “The Sound Of Missing You" werd door Ameerah zelf geschreven en dat samen met Airborn, een team dat eerder songs schreef voor Celine Dion, Westlife en Dannii Minogue. Ondertussen is Ameerah ook te zien op TMF met de zoektocht naar nieuw R&B-talent in het gloednieuwe programma "The Poject", de Vlaamse versie van de MTW-show "Making the Band".
