After months and months of intense development, we’re excited to announce that the Gigsby Beta is only a few weeks away from launch. And to show the world that we’re serious about making more gigs and better gigs we reserved a booth at the Winter Music Conference in Miami.

As loyal Gigsby community members, we would love to put some names to faces and of course show you the Gigsby Beta in action – trust us, you’ll be impressed. We’ll even throw in an early Beta code for you to try it out on your own time.

Savvy businesspeople recognize and envision the revenue that mixtapes can generate when marketed wisely. Ludacris, an astute businessman (and my favorite MC), released his A Hustler's Spirit mixtape in January 2010.

Here we have part 4 of Carlos Correal's awesomely informative interview. If you haven't been keeping up with this interview you can read parts 1-3 here. In this part of the interview, Carlos shares some ideas on how his company Opium Group uses social media to connect with the fans and promote shows like no other. His approach is to continually set the bar higher and is moving the old slapped together gigs out the window for beautifully produced shows that impress even the most die hard hip-hop fans. There are some true gems in this one so take the time to read it thoroughly.

We've mentioned before that we're big fans of Bandcamp.com (See Giovonni's post on Selling Your Music and Giving it Away for Free). We think it's a great way for small bands and DJs to distribute their content and provides the flexibility to charge whatever the market will bear in addition to a host of benefits not available anywhere else. So you can imagine that we're excited to hear that Bandcamp just launched a new feature which allows bands to sell both Digital and Physical albums from a Bandcamp page.

Mixtapes have been a staple in hip hop culture for decades. Artists primarily use them to build buzz for their commercial releases in an effort to increase their album sales. As useful as mixtapes have been for the artists who use them, it wasn't until relatively recently that their effectiveness as promotional vehicles surfaced in pop culture.

Keeping tabs on the EDM industry is no easy feat, especially the latest artist popularity trends. Luckily at Gigsby we have some really talented ninjas who find true bliss in pouring over the latest artist trend data and analyzing those results till their blue.
As a recap remember that we’re taking recent data supplied by Last.fm and turning it into a simple easy to read summary showing who is on the uptick. Oh, and we created some Boxing inspired peer groups so no one gets the undeserved KO.

Now, for our charts for the first two weeks of February...

There’s an ongoing discussion on the GigLog about the pros and cons of giving away your music for free. I’m here to propose a new idea – have your cake and eat it too. By this I proffer the model that our beloved Radiohead and Trent Reznor have used quite successfully. That is, give away your music for free AND for money.
