In a recent interview with Pharrell Williams at Midem in Cannes, he stated that new acts in music should first “build a site, a home for my music, a destination where people could come and see me and what I do and what I’m thinking about.” After that Pharrell goes on to say, “I’d probably assemble a team of kids that would go and bug the hell out of advertising agencies and marketing companies to use my music.”
From our perspective, chasing ad agencies is yet another smart way to expand upon the common ways to make money with music and supports the concept of creating a Brand around the artist. As an example, think of the many indie songs that Apple commercials have turned into huge hits overnight. While an Apple commercial may be considered the holy grail, there are plenty of other opportunities out there. And who knows, someday your track or the artist you represent’s track may end up in a Gigsby commercial.
