The Baltimore born DJ, producer, artist extraordinaire, is a talent that comes around once in a lifetime. Writing, producing, and arranging all his material, Blaqstarr’s worldly sound has no boundaries, grabbing elements from every genre. He is the NEW age artist. Blaqstarr’s most recent accomplishment was his co-writing and producing on MIA’s critically acclaimed album, /\/\/\Y/\. In his own words, “I love working with MIA cause they’re no limits to my creativity… I can grab any elements out of the air and make them come to life”. MIA discovered Blaqstarr years ago in Baltimore, MD with the help of tastemaker DJ Diplo. He was a local celebrity and club phenomenon in what was then Baltimore’s underground club scene. In April 2007 his EP “Supastarr” was released through Mad Decent records with the single "Shake It To the Ground" featuring Rye Rye, an artist discovered by Blaqstarr in Baltimore. The song quickly became an Internet sensation, receiving over a million hits on youtube within hours. Since then, Blaqstarr has toured the country with such acts as, M.I.A., Diplo, Rye Rye, participated in the Rock the Bells tour in 2008, and recorded with such artists as M.I.A., Mos Def, Steve Aoki, Switch, Talib Kweli, and Rye Rye. In early 2010, Blaqstarr inked his record deal to Interscope through MIA’s imprint N.E.E.T. recordings. Over the last several months he has locked himself away in the studio to craft the masterpiece he wants the world to hear as his debut album. In his words; “I go up into the clouds and grab all the bits and pieces of my dreams and experiences and put them in the air. When I come back to earth I’m Jamal and I listen to the music and I’m like damnnn, that blaqstarr dude is the shiiiet. That’s what Blaqstarr is to me, its higher self and beyond”.
