Dandi Wind was started in 2003 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada by Dandilion Wind Opaine (vocals) and Szam Findlay (music) following Dandi’s 3 year collaboration with Szam as a sculptor and animator accompanying his instrumental music. As of 2006 and now based in Montreal - Evan Pierce (drums) has joined them, making the band a trio. They have released 4 eps/singles and a full length album (14 songs / 10 videos) titled “Concrete Igloo” – which highlights Dandi’s animations in addition to the music. They self-released the LP on their own Todtenschlaf Records in November 2005 (reissue on SLUM and in Europe on Alt:Del). Due in 2007 is a 2nd full length album on Alt:Delete/Because/SLUM titled Yolk Of The Golden Egg. Through their haphazard touring in support of their releases they have played some interesting shows including fly-ins to locals as diverse as Mexico City, Oslo, Paris and Calgary (!?), touring the UK four times in the past year, twice at Montreal’s huge gay pride outdoor show, in a disused post office, a week of gigs for the Drake Hotel of Toronto’s anniversary, at the infamous Hammersmith Palais in London and last fall they played their biggest indoor show yet @ the infamous Fabric club in London, UK – it was oversold to 2300 people and Erol Alkan from Trash was djing… Dandi Wind have also played shows with Klaxons, Hidden Cameras, Final Fantasy, Shy Child, Simian Mobile Disco, Les Georges Leningrad, Broken Social Scene, Erase Errata and Planning to Rock. In terms of press – Dandi Wind were featured on a “Montreal weirdos” TV special on ARTE in France, NME, Dazed & Confused.Plan B + 3 consecutive issues of I-D in the UK, Musique Plus + Mange Ta Ville in Quebec, plus they were also on the cover of both monthly mags for the February 05 (Discorder + Nerve) in Vancouver, The Ottawa Sun in October and Nightlife magazine in Montreal for November 2005.
