Biography
artist 1: www.myspace.com/loopslive www.squz.nl Boris Acket, 04-08-1988. "It all started with the rhytmic devices". Boris started playing drums when he was 6 years old, posessed by the four to the floor and latin beats. His dad knew the man behind the anual Pinkpop festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands. And so it became an anual tradition to visit this festival. Pinkpop was his first taste to what electronic music could be. Moby was programmed as headliner on the second day of the festival. Boris was blown away by the amount of bass, the beats, and the repeating samples in the music. He immediatly searched for a sequencer to try and make this music by himself. It became the very amateuristic 'magix music maker deluxe', but it provided him with a drumcomputer, an effect rack, a couple of soft synths and a terrible sampler:). Turntables and a mixer were also added to his setup. He entered a talent competition, using the mixer in MMMDL to solo and mute the different audio tracks and hereby building the tracks live. A programmer of the Opkomst festival scouted him in 2003. The festival took place in the Jaarbeurs, Utrecht, Netherlands. At that time Boris was producing both breaks and experimental Drum&Bass. Again using Magix as the base of the live act, but adding scratches and live drums to it. After this he produced more and more tracks, bought reason, logic pro 7, and a professional laptop. Begin 2006 he released a white label on his own 'th4thd recordings'. An album with 10 tracks reaching from house to triphop and breaks to drum&bass. This album was a turning point. His style started shifting from the breaky experimental tracks more to the house music. Producing house music got him in touch with techno. A kid in his highschool class went on and on about this techno thing, and awakenings festival. He visited the festival and he was stoked. Now producing everything in between breaks house and techno Boris decided to work on his DJ skills. Got the hang of it, and played in several clubs and two of the legendary illegal Diepgezonken parties he wanted more. Sebastiaan, 14-07-1989, grew up in the centre of Amersfoort. When he turned eight his parents sent him on a piano course and soon he was playing his very first tunes. When Sebastiaan was visiting secondary school he became aware of other musicians that liked to play music just like himself. Now he started to, not only play music by himself, but also with others. After two years of jamming with several people, sebastiaan met an old friend of his at a new years eve party. This old friend had played the guitar for quite a while and he was looking for members for a band. Sebastiaan and his old mate teamed up with a drummer and formed the all-instrumental band mauve. In this band sebastiaan would learn the basic principles of writing music, playing with others and performing on a stage. Sebastiaan decided it was time to get rid of the clasical piano sound he was familiar with and buy a new intrument. It became the Korg Triton sampler/workstation. With this he would be able to make any music he liked. With his new Korg Triton and his brand new band Sebastiaan was set up to make a new unique sound. With his band mauve he made a mix of post rock, jazz/blues, indie and electric space sounds. After their first gig at the Kelder, Amersfoort the guys where scouted by an old Australian musician: John Zielman. John heard something in the guys and he offered them to record a demo EP with him. In the Summer of 2006 the band would record their first demo EP. So how the fuck did these two guys met? In spring 2007 Boris was booked for a gig called Minimaal Kabaal in Amersfoort. It was supposed to be a normal DJ-set, but two weeks before the gig he was told he had to implement live elements into his set. He wanted to have a second 'bandmember' so he went looking for a keyboardplayer. His dad told him that Sebastiaan was playing the piano for quite a while. Boris and Sebastiaan had met before, but Boris hadn't seen him for about 14 years (they went on a holiday when they were 2 and 3:). Boris decided to give it a try and called Sebastiaan. The chemistry was great and in the two weeks before Minimaal Kabaal they really had the feeling they started something special, and decided to go on with it. After a few gigs and a whole lot of productions they were booked by a friend in the twstd in Amsterdam: Draadloos. Jefferson (outland records) was also on the line-up. This is when they were scouted for the outland label. End 2007 Boris paid a vistit to the legendary Bar27 after basement, and did a set for their weekly online radio-show. This is when Pete (Jason And The Argonauts) started Squz booking agency. Two weeks after the online set Boris and Sebas were invited to Bar27 again and that day they signed to join the Squz Agency. TAK EP will be released in 2008 on outland records Amsterdam "Loops: funky-jazz-soulful-minimalistic-boombastic-four-to-the-floor-breaky dance music you can't get rid of:)" Bookings contact Pete Bandit: booking@squz.nl artist 2: Three men band from the suburbs of Barcelos. Loops is Carlos Marques (vocals, guitar), Leonel Miranda (bass) and Filipe Alvarenga (drums). Loops create a shogazzing monochromatic type of sound, a fusion within the alternative universe, with melodic compositions that transmit dark and involving sensations. In 2004, they recorded a promo with 4 songs (featuring Nuno Fernandes of Umbilical Nod and live guitarist for The Partisan Seed) that won the sympathy of many people, fact that allowed them to play for several times, all over the northern Portugal. After very warm receptions given from the various audiences, showing great dedication and energy on stage, Loops are setting their hearts into the 2006 recording of their first EP ‘no comments’, engineered and co-produced by José Arantes with the collaboration of the Nikouala project.
