Marsheaux (pronounced
mar-so) are a
female synthpop duo from Thessaloniki, Greece. They moved in 2000 to Athens and in 2003 they started Marsheaux in order to express their love for the
electropop of the 80’s. The problem of naming the band was easily solved by combining the first syllables of their names,
Marianthi and
Sophie.
Their first release was a cover of the classic
Hot Butter’s
Popcorn with a great success in Greece. They make synthpop music in the tradition that
The Human League,
Depeche Mode,
Yazoo and
OMD did.
Marianthi: Vocals, MicroKorg, Minimoog, Speak&Math, Roland SH101, YAMAHA CS01
Sophie: Vocals, Winston, Speak&Spell, MicroKorg, KORG MS 10, Roland aJuno2, AKAI Ax80, ROLAND CR78
Journalists described E-Bay Queen as:
* The best
synth pop album since
Human League's Dare
* The album that
fisherspooner and
Ladytron never did
* Marsheaux's E-bay Queen has to do with the joy and carelessness of the most innocent memories a pop fan could have. Start counting: Anorak pop by Sarah's label. Martini mood by
Saint Etienne and
Lush. Vocals that sound like flirting by
Dot Alison and
Kate Moss... Synth motifs that embrace OMD's and
Erasure's tradition. You get to hear all of the aforementioned and even more in a promising and cheery production. E-BAY QUEEN is
pop in all its glory. Music to flirt to, shop to, write love notes to and dance to. Music to communicate to and to turn up on the radio. Music to smile to and wink to a stranger
