Samuli Kemppi, also known from deep house duo
Sam & Gigi, is making waves around the globe with his stripped down techno sounds. "Hyperkaapo EP" on Finnish label Pakkas Levyt and latest release "Vangel" on Berlin's finest techno imprint Ostgut Tonträger are getting full support from all the key players around the world of techno. "Vangel" is also featured on Berghain 02 compillation, mixed by mighty
Marcel Dettmann.
Long history as a DJ and wide range of music collection can be heard in Samuli's music; influences from jazz, funk, disco, early hiphop, new wave and synthpop are strongly embedded with it. "You got to know your history before you can really do anything that relates to your surroundings. Every sound has to have a meaning on a track, otherwise it's just nonsense. I like to build my tracks with quite mathematical approach on music and on pure improvisation, there's lots of stuff based on prime numbers in my sound too. I also want to catch the moment to my tracks, so I tend to finish all the tracks at one session."
