As the leaves started to grow back on the trees and the honey birds rose up from the dead, the band Sykur was formed by Stefán Finnbogason and Halldór Eldjárn. They had been making music together for three years, mainly jazz fusion and hip hop, and decided to do something new. Something fresh. After a busy summer of writing songs and playing at various venues, a third member, Kristján Eldjárn, joined the band.
Sykur plays melodic electro-pop, specially designed for making one's feet move to a certain rhythm.
Also known as "dance music".
Sykur was featured at Iceland Airwaves '08 and received critical acclaim. Sykur is currently working on
their debut album "Frábært eða frábært" which will hopefully be ready before Airwaves.
Shared stage with bands such as Junior Boys (CA), Familjen (SE), Boys in a Band (FO) and Bloodgroup (IS).
Featuring the rapper Erpur Eyvindarson (Blaz Roca), the Royal Marching band of Reykjavik and singer Rakel Mjøll.
Oh, and by the way, Sykur means sugar.
