Over the last decade Tana Sprague (Lissom) has worked to establish a balance between developing her own artistic practice, as well as those of others. In 2009 her debut solo CD "Nest of Iterations" was released under the name Lissom, on Dragon's Eye Recording. It received widespread praise from diverse outlets such as Textura, Cyclic Defrost, XLR8R, Headphone Commute, and more. Just beginning to sink her toes back into the world of live performance, she's already made appearances at Seattle's Decibel Festival, the Mutek A/Vision program at Communikey Festival, the Biennial of the Americas, Soundwave Festival, Interferenze Festival (Italy), and with more exciting stops on the horizon. Tana's foundation in media arts theory and practice was constructed while earning a BA degree in Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts (ICAM) at the University of California at San Diego. During this time she was awarded two consecutive fellowships at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, investigating Sonification and Visualization, and Networked Audio-Visual Performance. The culmination of this work earned her the ICAM Artistic Achievement Award in 2004. She completed her formal education at Mills College, receiving a MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media. From 2004 until May of 2010 she worked alongside RML’s founder and Director Naut Humon; performing various roles including research and development intern, performance systems specialist, production manager, audio-visual engineer, event coordinator, international relations delegate, and most recently as Associate Director. While at RML Sprague produced events for artist such as Ryoji Ikeda, Biosphere, Alva Noto and Blixa Bargeld (ANBB), Pan Sonic, Richard Devine, Florian Hecker, Yasunao Tone, Semiconductor, Skoltz_Kolgen, Morton Subotnick, Curtis Roads, and Thomas Köner. In 2009 she began working with Gray Area Foundation to form a partnership between the two organizations, with Tana taking on the role of Director of Operations at Gray Area Foundation. Regardless of temporal situations and circumstance, Tana’s professional, artistic, and personal development remain inseparably guided by her passionate dedication to exploring and facilitating open-ended possibilities for creative exchange.
