SEEKAE is a three piece experimental electronica outfit formed in Sydney, Australia, by high school friends George Nicholas, John Hassell and Alex Cameron in 2006. Collectively, the band uses a number of instruments including drum machines, synths, samplers, melodicas, guitars, glockenspiels and even spoons.
The band's style sifts through ambient electronica and glitchy hip hop, expanding on the sounds of Xela, Boards of Canada and Telefon Tel Aviv, via the pop affability of Hot Chip or Hudson Mohawke. Somewhat appropriately, Seekae have dubbed their sound "ambient ghetto". Their sound also takes palatable influence from LA offbeat and the hypercolour future sounds of the Glasgow & London scenes.
Seekae's debut LP, 'The Sound Of Trees Falling On People', was released in 2008, on their own label Knitting Club Records. Its' glacier-esque take on the 1990's Warp Records sound and futurist shoegaze was awarded 'Album of the Week' by Sydney's independent tastemaker FBI Radio 94.5 FM.
Mid-2009 saw their FBI fundraising 'Remix EP' of local Sydney acts (Ghoul, Megastick Fanfare, Parades, Bearhug) launching at a sold out venue. The band then spent August touring with the seminal Decoder Ring and newcomers Bridezilla.
On 17/9/2009, 'The Sound of Trees Falling On People' saw re-release through independent label Rice is Nice, bundled with the aforementioned Remix EP. Seekae then hit the road in October & November opening for The Midnight Juggernauts.
After appearances at Parklife, Peats Ridge, the Sydney Big Day Out (Boiler Room), Field Day, Sydney Festival and a Hyundai TV commercial spot, mystery and excitement surrounds their forthcoming as-yet-untitled LP. With this new opus and various solo productions (as part of the oneofour collective), one can only expect greater and stranger things from Seekae in 2010.
