“It’s a rare and wonderful thing to be blown away by an album on first listen. And that’s exactly what Super8 & Tab’s debut artist album does.” Mixmag
"When did trance get this darn good again?"
- DJ Magazine
Up 22 to #60 in 2010 DJ Magazine Top 100
Nominated 'Best Breakthrough DJ' at 2010 Miami WMC IDMA Awards
'Anjunabeats Worldwide Vol 2' mixed by Super8 & Tab released April 2010
Only a select number of modern trance artists can convincingly say they are taking the sound to the next level. Although the humble, softly spoken duo would never shout it out themselves, Super8 & Tab are undoubtedly among them.
Renowned for their innovative approach and intricate production values, the Finnish producers have stealthily pushed themselves to the front of the trance pack since coming together in 2005.
DJs like Armin van Buuren, PVD, Above & Beyond & Ferry Corsten regularly smash their tracks both club-side and on the radio, while global dance bibles such as Mixmag and DJmagazine laud them with 5 star reviews.
Through their own energising DJ sets, Super8 & Tab themselves have conquered some of the biggest club brands in the game. They headlined the Future stage at this year’s Trance Energy, recently played Australia’s Future Music Festival and have also rocked trance totem poles like The Gallery, Mayday, Godskitchen, Trance Energy and A State Of Trance. On home turf, they command a legendary residency at Helsinki’s legendary Hallmark club and also find time to hold down a regular spot on the monthly Anjunabeats Worldwide radio show.
Now an integral part of the Anjunabeats family, Super8 & Tab first caused a fervour with the breakthrough success of tracks like ‘First Aid’ and the definitive ‘Helsiniki Scorchin’. Since establishing themselves as the label’s best selling artist behind Above & Beyond, the Finnish trailblazers have delivered trance of the highest quality ever since - their ethereal epic ‘Suru’ was picked out by DJmagazine as “the tent-pole release of Anjuna’s summer”, while ‘Elektra’ conquered the download charts and festival stages with equal aplomb in 2008.
In 2009, their star rose further still when German trance godfather Paul Van Dyk requested them to remix both his ‘New York City’ anthem and the equally large ‘Nothing But You’, while Ferry Corsten requested the magic Super8 & Tab touch on his vocal anthem ‘Made Of Love’. Crowning a year of unchecked success, it was little surprise when Super8 & Tab broke into the DJmagazine Top 100 for the first time at #82.
Now with the arrival of their debut artist album ‘Empire’, Super8 & Tab are elevating to the grander stage they were always destined for. Drawing on the diverse vocal talents of Jan Burton, Betsie Larkin, Alyna and Julie Thompson, ‘Empire’s 11-track journey sees Super8 & Tab stamp their distinctive skills on deep, brooding vocal anthems, classy downtempo excursions and futuristic trance fusions – with plenty of their trademark forward-thinking melodic sound besides.
An instant classic it prompted Mixmag to say “It’s a rare and wonderful thing to be blown away by an album on first listen. And that’s exactly what Super8 & Tab’s debut artist album does.”
And with comments like that, maybe they don’t need to sing their own praises after all.
Lyrics::
:: Perfect Day ::
I wondered if you noticed
As I pondered on emotions I sold
I wanted recognition
When I planned a low position in life
So I talk to all the angels
And I pray that they will listen to why
Why I need the understanding
Why I need the non demanding divide
This is not illusion
I don't need intrusion
Let me have my perfect day
These feelings of elation
There's comedy in patience
Now let me have my perfect day
I was born to break the silence
Anti war and violence, pro life
When they say the day is over
I have theory that is older than time
And there are plans that are above us
And we can demand that lovers unite
Like we are floating on an ocean
I am calmed by your devotion tonight
This is not illusion
I don't need intrusion
Let me have my perfect day
These feelings of elation
There's comedy in patience
Now let me have my perfect day

Every great artist has their first crowning moment; their coming of age. After years of DJ support by everyone from Above & Beyond to Armin van Buuren, that moment is now for Super8 & Tab. Completing their transition from architects of the most innovative modern trance to true album artists, the Finnish duo are here with ‘Empire’ – an 11 track journey that will sit as easily on a lazy Sunday afternoon home stereo as it will a laser-shot 3am stadium on a Saturday night.
Firmly established as Anjunabeats’ best selling artists behind Above & Beyond, the humble pair have been building up to this moment ever since joining forces in 2005. As each year has passed, accolades like their IDMA Best Compilation (‘Anjunabeats Worldwide 01’), Beatport No.1 chart positions and five star reviews in global dance bibles like Mixmag and DJ Mag have become increasingly regular propositions.
Always placing quality above quantity, their creations have stood out from the crowd time and again. Side-stepping the obvious and the overblown, releases like their definitive ‘Helsinki Scorchin’, the ethereal epic ‘Suru’ and the hypnotic, electro-twisted ‘Elektra’ have all taken their individual paths, but each one bears the classic Super8 & Tab hallmarks; heart-lifting melody, a wide-screen warmth of sound, solid groove and intricate, innovative and unrushed production values.
On ‘Empire’ their expansive visions are at last given full room to breath. Far from just a collection of dancefloor tracks, Super8 & Tab have crafted an LP of genuine depth and diversity as they head into the realm of powerful song for the first time.
A diversion from the standard cheesy trance vocals so many favour, Jan Burton’s searching, distinctive tones feature on tracks like the bubbling groover ‘Slow To Learn’, the emotional rollercoaster of ‘Mercy’ and the edgy, subtle title track ‘Empire’. A former James Holden collaborator, Julie Thompson graces the blissful, gentle prog-trance of ‘My Enemy’, Alyna is on the swooning St. Etienne-styled electronic-pop of ‘Perfect Day’ and Betsie Larkin contributes a sassy vocal on the upbeat ‘Good Times’.
For fans of Super8 & Tab’s instrumental melodic trance there is still plenty to savour. The strafing Jean Michelle-Jarre-esque melodies of recent single ‘Black Is The New Yellow’ (with fellow Finn Anton Sonin) is Super8 & Tab at their sweeping, soaring best. On ‘Irufushi’ they blend the pacey groove of the Swedish house sound with the stadium sweeping euphoria of climatic trance, while ‘Bliss’ is an unashamed, energised homage to the rushing waves of the ’99 trance era.
The album closes, however, on the appropriately reflective ‘Free Love’ – a beautiful, bittersweet downbeat number with Jan Burton. The perfect finish, it rounds off arguably the most complete trance-influenced artist album since Above & Beyond’s own ‘Tri-State’ in 2006.
