Right out of the gate, Sutro's music was highly anticipated. Before even putting out their first release, a demo version of their track "Temptress" was snatched up for use on the first Destination Lounge San Francisco compilation by Revive the Soul. Shortly after. Sutro released their debut EP, How Things Transpire, which was mixed by none other than Grammy nominated Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, Beck, The White Stripes, Lamb). That EP was hailed as "sexy, liquid, cinematic soul that just happens to have enormous commercial potential" (XLR8R Magazine). Sutro went on to license three of the four tracks on the EP on several compilations such as SF Essentials, Destination Lounge San Francisco 2, Digital Bliss, and the NARAS (Grammy) sponsored Test Press collection, positioning themselves as one of the premier downtempo acts of SF and the west coast.
Sutro’s 3rd release, Temptress: Remixed, features an eclectic crew of DJs and producers - including Frost-RAVEN, SNAX, J. Rogers and Sutro’s own Tyler Stone –who deliver a host of delicious mixes from thick as molasses down-tempo to nasty, sweaty dance floor grinds. Temptress: Remixed follows RE:fected – the Affected Remixes which met with critical acclaim. XLR8R dubbed Tyler’s broken mix “home grown goodness – a very nice busted mix “ while iTunes gave it features in new releases, electronic, and an indie spot light. There was no shortage of talent with mixes by Grammy nominated Chris Lum, Quannum Projects artist Tony Sevener of Honeycut, breaks guru DJ F, and Sutro’s own Tyler Stone.
Sutro, led by renowned Producer/Remixer Tyler Stone, along with Patrick Hinds and Keenan Wayne, have been embraced by broadcast and internet radio stations SOMA FM, 92.7 (Below Zero – debuted at #1), KZSU (#2 Electronica, #17 Top 30), KSCU and Groovera.com. Globally, podcasts Giant Step, Tom Thump's “The Enthusiast's Hour,” Dave's Lounge, Well Made Music (UK) and Electrical Lounge (UK) have featured Sutro’s music. As the word spreads, "dance music's mellower, more sophisticated cousin" (Bill Picture, Popbeat, SF Chronicle) is becoming de rigueur for those in the know.
