For nearly the last 2 decades Symbion Project has been the ongoing electronic music endeavor of Kasson Crooker. With most of his time spent composing and performing with the synthpop band Freezepop which he recently parted amicable ways with, and his now disbanded bands Splashdown and Sirensong, Symbion Project has long simmered in the background, but is now his primary focus. The first full length album red came out in 1997 followed by his downtempo masterpiece Immortal Game released in 2003. His third album Wound Up by God or the Devil came out in late 2006 and is a departure from the beat driven previous albums and focuses essentially on just the analog synthesizer recreating the sounds pioneered by Wendy Carlos and Vangelis. The 4th full length album "Misery in Soliloquy" came out in fall of 2009 featuring vocals by K*ss*n and Melissa R Kaplan of Universal Hall Pass (also ex-Splashdown) and epic strings by Simon Swarbrick. Not being one to be pinned down stylistically, Symbion Project has always embedded differing styles of electronic music into its overall aesthetic. In the beginning (red-era) Kasson incorporated elements of instrumental techno and trance, along with spastic drum & bass programming. Songs on Immortal Game slowed down dramatically into hypnotic down-tempo, reminiscent of Boards of Canada and DJ Shadow with haunting synths and Vangelis-esque ambient soundscapes. Immortal Game also features guest vocalists like Melissa Kaplan of Splashdown (All Things [Charmed Quark Remix]) and Leah Callahan of Betwixt (Pawn to King 4) alongside the instrumentals. Kasson Crooker with his myriad aliases was featured in the video game Frequency and its sequel Amplitude, both for the Sony PlayStation 2. In Frequency, songs by Symbion Project are the tracks Funky Dope Maneuver and FreQout. For Amplitude he composed Synthesized and in collaboration with Akrobatik came about Out The Box. Symbion Project has also been heavily involved in remixes over the last few years for bands such as Depeche Mode, Lamb and Delerium.
