The Shapeshifters are Simon Marlin and Max Reich. Party people at heart, the pair met when Simon signed Max to the Down Boy record label that he worked for. Musically, Simon found his enthusiasm for house on the dance floor in the late 80’s and early 90’s promoting nights and DJing, while Max got into production via a passion for techno, honed whilst throwing illegal raves in his native city of Gothenburg. In 2008 they found a new home at Defected Records, leaving Positiva after 4 years, and have initially made their mark at the world’s leading house music label releasing ‘Chime’ – a re-work of the Orbital classic – and the ‘Young Dubs EP’ which included ‘Sideways’ and ‘Nocturnal’. The Shapeshifters currently have a host of new releases lined up for 2010. ‘Helter Skelter’ – which features Steve Edwards on vocals – was initially released in single-track format during the early summer with the full release and remix package following in September. ‘Helter Skelter’ received widespread club and radio plays including significant support on Radio 1 from Pete Tong’s Essential Selection. The official video – a stunning project from the animated workshop of Rob Wicksteed – also picked up major attention from music TV stations. Following hot on the heels of ‘Helter Skelter’ will be ‘She Freaks’ – another killer collaboration between The Shapeshifters and Steve Edwards. ‘She Freaks’ is scheduled for release on Defected in November. The Shapeshifters have also recently remixed Seal (Weight Of My Mistakes), Pixie Lott (Broken Arrow) and Jason Chance (Looking Forward), whilst also working on a hot new collaboration with Shermanology. Aside from 3 top 10 hit records ('Lola's Theme', 'Back To Basics' and 'Incredible'), a BRIT Award nomination, a bucket full of remixes and productions for the likes of George Michael, Faithless, Frankie Knuckles, Todd Terry, Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis and Moby, the pair continue to produce the goods. They had the best selling house cut on Beatport in 2008 (‘Lola’s Theme (08 Re-Edit)’) and in 2009 delivered remixes for Empire Of The Sun (‘We Are The People’), Natalie Imbruglia (‘Want’) and Kleerup feat. Titiyo (‘Longing For Lullabies’). Throughout 2009 they also collaborated with Frankie Knuckles on ‘The Ones You Love’, remixed Candi Staton (‘Musical Freedom) and compiled a digital compilation (‘Nocturnal Grooves : Vol.2 – Mixed By The Shapeshifters’) for their own Nocturnal Groove imprint. Their critically acclaimed ‘The Shapeshifters - 'In the House'’ DJ mix compilation was another success in an already impressive portfolio and The Shapeshifters also mixed the ‘Summadayze’ compilation to coincide with their Australian tour in January 2010. Throughout 2010, The Shapeshifters will hold a DJ residency for Defected @ Pacha (Ibiza – Summer 2010) as well as at their long running party hang ‘Nocturnal’, which has recently hosted events at Matter (London) and runs alongside their own Nocturnal Groove label. As well as continuing their extensive worldwide tour schedule, playing shows from Australia to Canada, Europe and South America to the Far East and everywhere else in between, in 2010 ‘The Shapeshifters’ Nocturnal Groove Radio Show’ will be launching online and broadcast through a range of international radio stations.
